Awards Watch: February

Hart Trophy:

1. Tim Thomas--Boston gives up a lot of shots. Thomas stops most of them.
2. Sidney Crosby--I think this high rank attests to how badly he was lapping the field before big bad David Steckel nailed him.
3. Steven Stamkos--leads the league in goals and points. While his Corsi ain't great, I give him a bit of a pass considering poor zonestart and playing 2nd-toughs.
4. Jonas Hiller--Anaheim gets killed territorially on a nightly basis. Their only saving grace is the top-notch line of Bobby Ryan-Ryan Getzlaf-Corey Perry, the dominant pairing of Lubomir Visnovksy-Tony Lydman, and the NHL's #2 power play. And Hiller, too.
5. Henrik Lundqvist--tied for 1st with seven shutouts. The biggest reason NYR are in playoff position is because Lundqvist has been stopping everything.

Just missed: Pekka Rinne, Martin St. Louis, Daniel Sedin, Henrik Sedin, Jonathan Quick

Norris Trophy:

1. Kris Letang--Still killing his minutes.
2. Lubomir Visnovsky--lots of points, toughest competition in the league (save for Lidstrom), one of the toughest zone starts in the league, but one of the highest Corsi Rels too. Part of that are his kick-ass teammates, part Visnovsky.
3. Nicklas Lidstrom--Still making everyone else's lives easier by playing the toughs. He's not beating them (at least in terms of Corsi Rel), but he's also getting worse zone starts and worse teammates.
4. Keith Yandle--good, well-rounded defenseman, but he doesn't stand out in any way. He gets a good amount of PP points, of ES points, good pts/60, plays big minutes, top-4 but not shutdown competition, decent but not great teammates. I think he's on a hot streak, that's all, but we'll see.
5. Tony Lydman--see Visnovsky

Just missed: John-Michael Liles, Dan Boyle, Brian Rafalski, Tobias Enstrom, Dustin Byfuglien

Vezina Trophy:

1. Tim Thomas
2. Jonas Hiller
3. Henrik Lundqvist
4. Pekka Rinne
5. Jonathan Quick--I don't want to change the order I had them in for the Hart

Just missed: Niklas Backstrom, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ondrej Pavelec, Sergei Bobrovsky, Kari Lehtonen

Selke Trophy:

1. Ryan Callahan--toughest minutes in the league, and beating them.
2. Henrik Zetterberg--beats very tough minutes, still. Destroys them.
3. Teemu Selanne--so he's one of the heavy lifters in Anaheim. Who knew?
4. Alexei Ponikarovsky--get this: competition north of 1.000, teammates south of -3.300, positive Corsi (albeit only slightly). Wow.
5. Pavel Datsyuk--see Zetterberg, but Datsyuk gets better teammates.

Just missed out: Artem Anisimov, Martin Hanzal, Jay McClement, Brandon Dubinsky, Pascal Dupuis

Calder Trophy:

1. Michael Grabner--Read.
2. Logan Couture--see Grabner.
3. John Carlson--still shutdown pairing, still outshooting opposition...still awesome.
4. Jeff Skinner--see Grabner.
5. Sergei Bobrovksy--.930 ESsv% is pretty good. Only his PKsv% is dragging him down. I apologize, Bob, I never should have left you off.

Just missed out: Derek Stepan, Taylor Hall, Cam Fowler, Michal Neuvirth, Kevin Shattenkirk

Jack Adams Award:

1. Guy Boucher (TBL)--when is it safe to call him a lock?
2. Alain Vigneault (VAN)--best team in the league is coached by this dude.
3. Dan Bylsma (PIT)--so even with Crosby and Malkin out, the Pens are winning. Turns out his system is fantastic, too.
4. Mike Babcock (DET)--coach of a very good team. In some respects there are only 3-4 really good skaters, but Babcock makes it all work very well.
5. Jacques Martin (MTL)--I'm still amazed that this team went from 49% Fenwick--bottom half--to top-10, even with losing Andrei Markov again.

Just missed out: Barry Trotz (NSH), Joel Quenneville (CHI), Peter Laviolette (PHI), Davis Payne (STL), Claude Julien (BOS)
